Maine Woolens: American Textile Manufacturing

As part of our programming about Maine textile history this past summer, we hosted an exhibition; a series of lectures about silk and textile mills; a walk along Main Street, Brunswick; and a tour. For the tour, we gathered at the Brunswick textile manufacturing firm, Maine Woolens, and were guided by Vice President Raymond Boshold. What a top-notch operation! Maine Woolens creates household linens, blankets and throws using cotton, wool and specialty yarns. A staff of 30 designs, dyes, weaves, finishes, and packs items which are then sold in Maine and throughout the U.S. through shops and catalogs. Raymond walked us through the process and through the mill, showing us the many pieces of equipment and handwork that go into creating these beautiful textiles. The company is pleased to be sourcing, creating and supporting American textile manufacturing. Maine Woolens keeps a retail shop at 124 Main Street, Freeport open every day from 10-6. See an array of their products at www.mainewoolens.com. And stay tuned to Maine Fiberarts as we plan another fiber adventure.
