Marion Brown Rug Hooking Studio

This winter, we visited the studio of Marion Brown Rug Hooking in Belfast, Maine. The studio is located just beyond downtown in a large red and white building called The Belfast Center. Here, Marion has created a warm, cozy haven for rug hookers to convene, learn and share. The large sunny rooms are filled with bolts of wool, hand-dyed fabrics, inspirational books and magazines, tapes and supplies, and Marion’s unique pin cushion collection. Finished hooked rugs grace the walls, piles of color-sorted wools interspersed with collectibles fill many shelves, and an old Singer sewing machine stands ready for use. The studio includes a separate dye kitchen for experimentation, a large table and chair to facilitate study, and a comfy couch and sitting area for guests. Contact Marion for details or to arrange a visit. Physical Address: Marion Brown Rug Hooking, Studio 340, The Belfast Center, 9 Field Street, Belfast, ME 04915; 207-522-5348. Mailing address: PO Box 303, Belfast, ME 04915.

Please note: Due to the pandemic, visiting hours have changed and it’s best to call ahead.

  4. Marion,
It was wonderful to meet you today—and so many other rug hookers— at the Orland Community Center. What a friendly group of women! And the colors and designs and textures will keep me happy all day. Next time I’m down in Belfast, I’ll call ahead in hopes of getting to see your studio.
    Kind regards,
    Uli
