Gardens and looms. Lavender, weaving students, chocolate chip cookies, and looms underway. Sara and I planned this visit months ago when the snows were still swirling in Maine. But this past July, all was perfect. The day was sunny, she had several students creating beautiful work after only one morning of tutelage, and the lavender was in full bloom.
If you’d like to learn weaving, this is one of the great studios Maine has to offer located right in Waldoboro. Sara has been weaving high-quality tapestry rugs for over 40 years. She knows her craft. Her own work adds a contemporary spin to her pillows, wall pieces, area rugs and runners. Her home is part of her artwork also. Spacious rambling white house, large studio housing several looms (two Swedish looms measure 10- and 12-feet across!), a gallery space, and lovely gardens. She knows as much about good food and horticulture as she does weaving. And her home is filled with beautiful tapestries, threads, cotton fabrics and yarn.
