Sculptural Knitting Workshop

In May, I attended a sculptural knitting workshop organized by the Maine Crafts Association. Haystack Mountain has a beautiful campus located on Sunset Point at the tip of Deer Isle  in Maine. Artists and craftspeople are completely surrounded by woods, studios and cabins, bordered by the Atlantic. At the close of Katharine Cobey’s knitting workshop, students and teachers went off to visit studios for wood, clay, blacksmithing, book arts, and metals all decked out with what students had made. MCA did a great job of gathering top teachers AND students. I was so surprised to see friends learning woodworking, singers in the clay studio, and other familiar faces gathering to make craft. A great four-day workshop retreat. Katharine will teach knitting for Haystack’s main program in August of 2014, and MCA will do their special Weekend Workshops again next Spring.
